The Verlaines - Juvenilia (1987)

"Do you like Paul Verlaine?"

And now back to New Zealand for an album from one of my most treasured Flying Nun bands--and, by extension, a favorite of the entire decade--the magnificently moody Verlaines. This is a collection of their early EPs and singles, including the fabulous kiwi classics "Death and the Maiden," "Doomsday," and "Pyromaniac." Enjoy these elegant, classical, and always literate compositions courtesy of Dr. Graeme Downes, now the senior lecturer of contemporary rock music at the University of Otago in Dunedin.

Awesome! I'm confused though, don't you have the wrong version of "CD Jimmy..." on there? I thought Juvenilia had the original (b-side to "Death and the Maiden") version? This download has the one from Bird-Dog...maybe I'm wrong though.

No, you're right. This is not a personal rip of mine; the version I downloaded was missing the final track. I wasn't trying to be insidious--I mean, it's fairly obvious--I just wanted the album to feel complete. I'll try and dig up the original B-side for you. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding; I should have made the track difference clear in the original post.

No reason to be sorry! Nice blog.

I have been searching for Juvenilia for ages! Thank you for taking the time, and agreed, nice blog.

The download seems to be dead, however. And I was so close. *sigh*

Ariel, this is the most incredible resource. Im in ecstasies over the Double Happys and Verlaines stuff I haven't had in decades. The Juvenilia link is dead however - I will die without it. Any chance of a re-up? Also any other JPSE? The Size of Food? Thanks so much. You are helping millions.

I see the file has been re-upped, thanks! Does the version now there have the original version of the b-side mentioned, or the replacement version?
